This trout fishing course is designed
for those who have been fishing for a year or two or who are self
taught. Wecover all the areas
you need to improve your fishing ability and knowledge.
The course will cover:
distance casting, hauling, line control, stalking fish, entomology, and advanced casting
techniques.
At the end of the course
you will be presented with a Personal Assesment DVD which will include video footage of your
casting before and after the day's coaching. You will also receive personal notes
to assist you further.
The cost of this course includes one
fish from Ashford or Millers Lakes.
Some of the key points that we
cover:
- Casting Analysis – where you are now and what you want to
achieve.
- The Principles of Distance Casting – single
haul and double haul.
- Stalking Fish – what to look for and understanding
depth.
- Advanced Entomology- identification; groups;
terrestials.
- Advanced Casting Techniques – video
analysis.
- Slack Line Casts and Their Uses - on still water and
on a river.
- The Use of Longer Rods – where, when and
how.
- The Use of Lines – Floating; Sink Tip; Intermediate; Slow &
Fast Sink
- Type of Leader Set Up For All Conditions – small still water;
small river; large still water etc.
- Recommended Reading – CD’s and Videos
What to
bring:
A selection of rods and different lines will be available; all you
need to do is turn up with your fishing gear, suitable outdoor clothes, a hat and sunglasses. Bring a
picnic lunch if you like and we will provide the tea or coffee. Or if you
prefer, we can provide a sandwich platter; just ask at the time of booking.
Soft drinks can be bought in the shop.

A comprehensive day's course with expert
tuition covering all the aspects you will need to take up fly fishing.
Becoming an expert fly
fisherman can takes years or even a lifetime of practise and there is always something new to learn.
Obviously, you are not going to learn it all in a day, but this fly fishing course really will give you a
solid grounding from which you can begin your journey into the fascinating world of fly
fishing.
The course will cover the equipment you need to
start fishing, the casts you need to make, the knots you need to tie and the flies to catch a fish. You will
be taken through step by step in relaxed enjoyable sessions.
At the end of the course you will receive a booklet
(retail value £5) covering all you have learnt and much more! You will also be able to catch one fish
to take home.
Here are some of the key points you will learn during the
day's lessons:
- Fishing Safety - both yours and others
- Equipment Needed - rods, reels, line and important
accessories
- Fishing Knots - the basics
- The Mechanics of Casting
- The Roll Cast- the first building block to
casting
- The Overhead Cast- the second building block to
casting
- Line management – shooting line, false casting, line
retrieval
- Entomology- what trout eat and how to imitate
this.
- Catching and Playing a Fish – despatching it
or returning it to the water safely.
